GROW FOOD ANYWHERE

hy•dro•pon•ics

\ ˌhī-drə-ˈpä-niks \

(noun) The cultivation of plants by placing the roots in liquid nutrient solutions rather than in soil; soilless growth of plants.

Benefits of a Hydroponic Container Farming System
Save Water
Save Water

On average, hydroponic growing systems use 90 percent less water than soil-based farming by efficiently recapturing and recycling water.

No Herbicides or Pesticides
Don't use herbicides

Because food grows inside away from pests, there's no need for any harmful herbicides or pesticides.

Use Space Wisely
Use space wisely

A hydroponic farm can grow 3-10 times the number of crops in the same amount of space as traditional farmland.

Keep Plants Alive
Keep plants safe

Food is typically vulnerable to extreme weather and pests. Hydroponic systems can be set up indoors, away from harmful elements.

Advantages to Starting a Hydroponic Farming Business

Grow Food Year-Round

With plants safe from pests and the elements, hydroponic farming allows you to grow and harvest consistently so you can always sell the freshest local food, regardless of the season.

Sell A High-Quality Product

Plants growing hydroponic growing systems — especially indoor ones — always have the perfect conditions, allowing them to develop beautiful structures and deep flavors.

No Experience Necessary

Hydroponic systems remove many of the variables involved in soil farming, making it easy for someone with limited farming knowledge to get involved in growing food.

Full Transparency & Food Safety

Hydroponics allow food to be grown closer to it’s final destination, which simplifies the food supply chain, creating better transparency and reducing risk of food-borne illness.

Create Positive Change

No matter which cause you champion — sustainability, local business development, or nutrition — hydroponic growing systems are a platform to build a business with a strong message.

Reduce Labor

Hydroponic systems require no tilling, weeding, heavy-lifting, or extensive stooping and kneeling. All you need to maintain healthy yields is regular cleaning and maintenance.

The ability for us to use the Greenery to create an environment that is conducive for growing food in all seasons, especially in for a place like Kodiak, is huge. Now, while we can’t feed everyone on the island, we can certainly help provide many, many families with [food] access … something that can add nutritional value to what they’re putting on their table.

"If you're starting out, if you don't have an extensive background in agriculture, there's no easier way than getting into that hydroponic system to start out. It's super user-friendly and it's super easy, super consistent. There's always someone on the other end of the line to answer your call when something goes wrong."

"Our agriculture students have benefited greatly from the container farm. Being in an area with limited space for a greenhouse or garden; the container farm provides a place for students to build upon the foundations we set inside the classroom. Getting to see my students demonstrating their knowledge in the farm makes me one proud agriculture teacher."

"I want to be that resource for those chefs. 'Hey Hamilton, we've got a plate coming up,' or 'I've got a dish idea coming up and we're looking for this flavor profile or this texture or this shape, this color, this size.' That's where I'm feeling that I can provide this expertise to them. That all originates with having those conversations with them."
