Got a Question?

One Freight Farms Greenery S is capable of growing lettuces, leafy greens, herbs, brassicas, certain root vegetables, microgreens, edible flowers, and many other crops in any location, regardless of exterior climate.

What is a Freight Farm?

A Freight Farm is a modular, hydroponic, vertical farm built entirely inside a 40 foot shipping container. It can grow hundreds of different crops in any environment.

What are the different uses for the farm?

K-12 schools use the farms in a variety of ways, including:

  • Create coursework and classes specifically around the farm
  • Supply student cafeterias with hyper-local produce
  • Conduct research in a variety of disciplines
  • Incorporate farm business operations into entrepreneurial programs
  • Attract new students and donors
Are there financing options?

There are quite a few financing options for colleges and universities and we're happy to help you through the process. Check out these grant resources on the Freight Farms website or Grants.gov.

What is the cost of the container farm?

The price of the Greenery is $149,000 (international pricing will vary). We suggest budgeting around $160,000 to account for shipping and site preparation costs. Average annual operating costs are about $20,000 depending on variables like the cost of electricity and labor. You can see more detailed pricing information here.

MORGAN HILL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Cutting-edge teaching and fresh produce for students

Morgan Hill Unified School District (MHUSD) is embracing technology at its schools to provide students with astoundingly fresh meals. Championing this initiative is Michael Jochner, MHUSD’s Nutrition Director.

MHUSD serves some 8,400 students. With just one Freight Farm, the Nutrition Department is able to grow 60% of the lettuce heads needed for the entire district.

FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOL OF INNOVATION
Agriculture Curriculum and FFA

In Kentucky, Floyd County School of Innovation (FCSI) has launched an FFA program hinged on a Freight Farm. FCSI is a new school, born of a desire to give kids the opportunity to take control of their educational future by offering STEM pathways and career and technical education. The Freight Farm quickly proved to be an asset to the school, drawing students to both FCSI and the agriculture program and offering another FFA pathway.

Practical Applications of STEAM

Mountain Vista High School (MVHS) is a pioneer of vertical farming at schools. Their Freight Farming program launched in 2017, with the movement spearheaded by teacher David Larsen. The campus’ Leafy Green Machine farm is utilized by teachers across disciplines — from biology and chemistry to business — to get students out from behind their desks and provide valuable hands-on learning experiences.
